Overview

Compatible Cloudpaged applications from the Software2 Packaging Service can be automatically licensed using your organizations software license details. The relevant licensing information for these apps can be configured using pre-defined templates within AppsAnywhere. A license template can then be applied to one or many Delivery Methods. If a template is not available for a specific application, a custom license can be created.

Useful Information

Automated App Licensing is only available in AppsAnywhere 2.11 and must be enabled by Software2 Support before use.

All Admins can create and apply licenses once this feature is enabled.

Updating the List of Templates

When creating an App License you have a choice of using a Software2 Template, which will provide a guide for the license data or files required to license an app, or to create a Custom license if no template is yet available.

Software2 provide a repository of templates for the compatible apps provided by our Packaging Service. New Templates are added as more compatible apps are released. To ensure that you can always keep up-to-date with the latest Templates, we have added the ability to dynamically update templates in AppsAnywhere.

Updating the list of Templates is a manual process which can be performed at any time by following these steps.

Navigate to the App License management page:

  1. Log into AppsAnywhere as a system admin user
  2. Click on Return to Admin to access the AppsAnywhere admin portal
  3. Hover over the settings menu (the cog icon found at the top right of the page)
  4. Click on App License management on the dropdown menu

Clicking on the Check for updates button will retrieve any updates and apply them to the Templates available in AppsAnywhere.

A table will show any Templates which have been added, updated or removed.

Something To Note

Although Templates are named after specific apps, it only provides a format for your licensing data, and will only work with compatible applications provided by Software2. From the template an App License must be created containing the application license details specific to your organization.

Managing App Licenses

App Licenses can be created, edited and removed by all admin users.

Creating an App License

To use Automated App Licensing an app license must first be configured containing your organization specific license details for a compatible Cloudpaged app.

Navigate to the Manage Automated App Licensing section:

  1. Log into AppsAnywhere as an admin user
  2. Click on Return to Admin to access the AppsAnywhere admin portal
  3. On the sidebar on the left of the page, locate the Manage Automated App Licensing section

On this page you should see a list of any App Licenses which have already been added. To add a new App License, click the Add new license button.

You will now be able to enter the details for the App License you wish to add.

The License template field allows you to select a pre-defined template for a particular app. The template enforces a particular format for the license data, and therefore selecting one of these licenses will 'lock' the fields under license data (or files) to the required fields for the app template chosen.

Please refer to Automated App License Templates for more information on the expected data formats to work with your Software2 provided apps.

If there is no template available, you can define license data manually by ensuring that the template field is set to custom. This might be the case for bespoke apps that you request from the Software2 Packaging Service.

Something To Note

When creating a custom license, please note that Keys can only contain lower case letters, numbers, and underscores. Values may contain any characters.

On this page you should see the list of any App Licenses which have already been added. To edit an App License simply click on the license which you wish to edit in the list.

Once you have finished making changes to the App License, click Update license to save the changes.

Something To Note

App licenses are only applied on the very first launch of a Cloudpaged app. Editing an app license will not affect users who already have an app virtualized in Cloudpaging Player. To apply a new a license for an app that is already in use, it is necessary to create a new Cloudpaged Delivery Method and to configure an upgrade.

An App License that is linked to Delivery Methods cannot be removed. You can view and remove any associations to Delivery Methods in the Linked Delivery Methods tab at the top of the form.

If the App License is linked to any Delivery Methods, click Remove for each Delivery Method to remove the association.

Once any associated Delivery Methods have been removed, you can click the Delete App License button at the bottom of the License details form to remove the App License.

Warning

Removing an App License from an App will cause new launches of that App to fail, until a new license is applied with the required key values.

Applying an App License to an App

Once you have created some App Licenses, the next step is to apply the license to an App. An App License can be associated to any number of Apps.

App Licenses can only be applied to Cloudpaging Delivery Methods.

Useful Information

The App License applied to a Delivery Method can be changed or removed entirely by following the same process, and clicking remove on the previously applied App License.
